UNEARTH INTERVIEW
August 6, 2006
Ed Martin for Prophecy21.com: How's the tour been going so far?
Ken Susi Guitarist for Unearth: So far the tour is great. Everyone is
getting along, everything is going real well.
P21: Have you guys been playing any new stuff?
KS: Yeah, we played Europe and we did four or five new songs and then we
selected one for here on Ozzfest.
P21: Have the crowd reactions been good?
KS: Yeah, everything has been great so far.
P21: Are there any bands on this tour in particular that you were real
excited to be playing with?
KS: I really like listening to all the bands that I've known for years
like; All That Remains, A Life Once Lost, really good band. Every band is
good.
P21: What are your thoughts about Ozzy playing the second stage at some
dates this year?
KS: I think it's really cool, but I don't like the security. When they
do it, there's extra barriers all over the place.
P21: What are your favorite and least favorite parts about playing big
festivals like this?
KS: Least favorite is just hanging out in a parking lot all night not
doing anything. Favorite part is that you get to play to big crowds and
be with your friends.
P21: What do you usually do to kill all the extra time you get on a
festival tour like this?
KS: Run, jog, workout, hang out, drink.
P21: How do you feel about the price matching policies for merch on this
tour?
KS: That I'm not really into. I wish we could sell our t-shirts for
whatever we wanted.
P21: How does the sound on the new album differ from the last?
KS: This record is more live sounding. No click tracks, no bullshit. A lot
of records now come out with singing and melodic choruses to try to sell
more records, I think that's not very metal. We kept it real I guess. We
wanted to do a metal record, a heavy, heavy metal record. We didn't need
to sell out to be good.
P21: What's behind the name of the new album?
KS: Five guys determined to make a great record.
P21: How'd you guys get hooked up with Terry Date to produce?
KS: Just a guy who we thought his work was real good. He's a good guy and
we believe in his stuff. We wanted to make a live record, a real organic
record and he was the guy to do it.
P21: What's your favorite song off the new album?
KS: I like "Bled Dry" a lot. I think they're all good. I really like all
of them.
P21: What are your plans for videos for this album?
KS: We already did the video for "Giles", you can find it online.
P21: How'd the shoot for that go?
KS: Awesome. We went to L.A. and did it with Darren Doane. It was a great
time and he was a great guy.
P21: How'd you guys decide on Bleeding Through for direct support on your
upcoming headlining tour?
KS: They're just another band that's been around for a while, that's been
doing well. You know, it's a good package. We haven't done a tour with
them, I don't think ever. So, it's about time to do it.
P21: Are you excited about the Australian tour you guys have coming up?
KS: Yeah, me and Adam and all the guys from Killswitch are friends and
Lamb of God too. It'll be really fun.
P21: If you guys were ever going to play a cover live, what song would you
want it to be?
KS: Probably "Clobberin' Time" by Sick of it All.
P21: Thanks, is there anything that you want to add?
KS: No man, just thank you and check out our new record on August 8th.
