SKRAPE INTERVIEW
September 25, 2003

Ed Martin for Prophecy21.com: How's the tour been going so far?
Brian Milner Guitarist for Skrape: It's really been great, totally killer. We've been selling some merch so that's usually a good sign. Everybody seemskind of anxious to get the new CD which is pretty awesome.
Randy Guitarist for Skrape: The other bands on the tour have been great too.

P21: How have people been reacting to the new material so far?
BM: Good. A lot of our old fans seem pretty into the new stuff which isgood, because a lot of times people only wanna hear the new stuff that theyknow.

P21: When's the new album scheduled to come out?
Randy: Early part of January 2004. Not a definite day in January, butJanuary 2004.

P21: How'd you come up with the title of the album?
BM: Will came up with that, the drummer.
Randy: We just had the song Up The Dose first and that title seemedappropriate for the album after everything that we put into it. It just keptgetting bigger and bigger and bigger.
BM: Yeah, after we named the song that it just hit us as the perfect titlefor the record.

P21: How does this album differ from the last one?
BM: It differs in texture...
Randy: Members (laughing).
BM: Yeah, members. We got Randy here, he replaced Mike Lynchard ourprevious guitar player and Randy has a lot different style. So that madethe record partially sound different. The first record had no clean guitarparts. It was all pretty raw and distorted. It was a straight across metalrecord. The new album has one song that's actually full acoustic with afull orchestra string section too and we have several others that sort of godown into a clean guitar part. That's mostly an influence of Randy'swriting. It's a more timeless record. It's more of a rock record, but thatdoesn't really fit into a category. Like the first album you'll be able totell it came from 2001 but the new record like 10 years from now you won'tbe able to tell when it came from.
Randy: It's a more dynamic record.

P21: What's the first single off the new album going to be?
Randy: Stand Up.

P21: How'd you guys decide on it?
Randy: Our record label was just really feeling that song when we firsthanded it in and we digged it too. It's a cool song, but then on the otherside of the track you've got college radio and there tearin it up with UpThe Dose. So they're digging that song. That song had a possibility andstill does of becoming a regular single and it kind of just took on a lifeof its own. CMJ had it in the Top 10 on college radio right now.
BM: It was hard to pick a single cause there was actually a good five ofthem on there that you could use. Stand Up is just a big rock song andpeople grab on to it real easily. So we decided to come out with somethingbig and easy. But hey maybe we can get like 4 more singles after that.
Randy: You can only hope.

P21: Where are some of your favorite places to play?
BM: Last night we played the Norva. Thats a really really really nice clubin Norfolk, Virginia.
Randy: House of Blues, Orlando. Thats our hometown so of course thats good. Machine Shop was cool.
BM: Yeah the Machine Shop out in Michigan. It was small, but it just had avibe. The people are like right there at the edge of the stage and peoplejust have a really good time. But, you know we haven't played here at BirchHill before so who knows it could be our new favorite.

P21: Won't be able to play here again though.
Randy: Yeah I heard they're puttin in old people homes or something right?

P21: Yeah, but they got a new club called the Starland Ballroom.
BM: They can't just call it Birch Hill again, thats a cooler name.

P21: When they bought it it was called Hunka Bunka.
BM: (Laughing) Hunka Bunka, no wonder it went out of buisness. Who the hellwants to say that they're going to hang out at Hunka Bunka.
Randy: (In effeminate voice) Hunka Bunka is sooooo hot right now. (Laughs).

P21: What's your favorite track to play live?
Randy: We haven't actually played any one set list for more then like fournights in a row and only one of them made it the whole four nights. We'realways changing our set list.
BM: Probably either Rake or Up The Dose. Up the Dose is pretty fun to play. But thats a hard one.
Randy: That is a hard one. I like them all for different reasons I guess.

P21: Is there any one show that sticks out in your mind as one of your bestshows ever?
Randy: I don't know if it was our best show performance wise, but the SeoulOlympic Stadium in Seoul, Korea was pretty amazing. It was like around50,000 people or something like that.
BM: The stage at that place was like as big as some whole venues. We couldjust like go running across it. There was like a runner that went out intothe crowd so you could walk out to the middle of the crowd. So, yeah thatwas a pretty good one.

P21: Do you feel that touring with Pantera and Slayer helped you guys asmusicians?
BM: Randy wasn't in the band yet so he can't really answer that. If nothingelse it definitely made us thicker skinned. Like now if there's a crowdthat's not really accepting us, its no big deal now. If we'd never done thattour, it might really affect us a lot more. If you can make it through afull tour with Slayer and Pantera you're pretty much set. Some bands havedropped off tours with Slayer because they just can't deal with it. Soyeah, I think it made us better live performers.

P21: What bands would you like to play with in the future that you haven'tyet?
Randy: I'd love to play with as many bands as we possibly can. I liked StoneSour a lot when we did some radio shows with them, that would be prettycool.
BM: Korn would be really really cool.

P21: Thanks, is there anything that you want to add?
Randy: Up the Dose January 2004. Visit www.skrape.com.
BM: Yeah the website, we're gonna be selling merch on there and haveinformation about joining the street team. Thanks.
