MURDERDOLLS INTERVIEW
November 16, 2002

Ed Martin for Prophecy21.com: How's the tour been goin so far?
Joey Jordison guitarist for Murderdolls: It's been goin great man. This is only the second date, but I basically look at the tour as since we started tourin which was like 6 months ago. What we're doin is a lot different, but so far kids have been adapting to it and having a lot of fun with it, which is something there not really used to. Everything else is usually so depressing and heavy and what were doing is like the complete opposite of that. So kids are having fun with it so far.

P21: What caused the Rejects to disband and for you to form the Murderdolls?
JJ: Basically, when I met Wednesday and me and him started writing songs it turned a bit heavier with songs like, "Slit My Wrist", "Die My Bride", "Let's Go To War" and stuff it started taking a heavier approach and plus Wednesday's lyrics tended to deal with like the comical horror, with like violence and stuff like that, but in a funny way ya know. Basically, I felt that Wednesday had a better voice for what me and him started writing so the Frankenstein Drag Queens and the Rejects were just put together and we got the Murderdolls out of that.

P21: What are your feelings on Tripp leaving the band and how do you feel that Acey's presence has changed the band?
JJ: Acey has been great. We didn't even like audition anyone else, he was our only choice and luckily he was cool enough to step in and help us out. See, he was always in the running to be in the Rejects, I just didn't want to have a bunch of guys from Dope, ironically it just ended up workin out that way. But, I wish Tripp all the luck in the world. He didn't really leave the band and he wasn't really fired. He wanted to stay in the band, but he only wanted to play select shows cause he had to do Static-X stuff, so I was like ya know what I can't have that man I don't wanna have a big revolving door, you go do your Static-X thing and thanks for the help on the record.

P21: How do you feel about people comparing this to Slipknot even though it's really very different?
JJ: Well we knew from the start that we were gonna get it, but I don't think they are so much comparing as they are linking the two cause I'm in both bands. I don't really mind it honestly, I mean people have got to know if they have any sort of IQ that the stuff is so different it really cant be compared, its like apples and oranges.

P21: Do you think that writing with the Murderdolls is gonna change your approach to writing with Slipknot?
JJ: No, not at all. Like, when I get together with Slipknot what I write there is definitely in the Slipknot formula. What I write there is gonna be really heavy and complex and brutal.

P21: How does the feeling differ for you between bein in the front of the stage with a guitar and no mask as opposed to what you do in Slipknot?
JJ: Its cool man I've done both for so long. I'm not knew to playing guitar live, its just now a lot more people are gonna get to see me do it. So at first, its gonna be weird for people used to seeing me drum, but by the end of the show they are usually really into it. I've been having fun with it man. They both give me a different emotion. Ya know, with all the angry shit I do in Slipknot what better instrument then the drums where you're constantly hit everything, but when I play guitar I don't necessarily feel all angry, I like to play more free-spirited rock 'n' roll type stuff.

P21: How did you guys being on Dawson's Creek come about?
JJ: See, I had never even heard of that show and I had everyone tellin me, "Man that's like the new 90210." But, basically it was through our label.

P21: What made you guys decide to have "Dead in Hollywood" be the first single?
JJ: Cause I didn't want to come out with "Love at First Fright" or "She Was a Teenage Zombie" like one of the more radio-friendly metal ones or poppier ones cause ya know I wanted to keep it heavy. Even though its not necessarily brutal like Slipknot that opening riff is pretty heavy, its metal and I didn't wanna like shy away too many Slipknot fans right off the bat.

P21: What are your plans for after this tour?
JJ: After this tour in the US we go back to the U.K. and do like a headlining run. That's like our third time there this year cause the band is like huge over there. And then we go do a big festival show in Japan. Then we have Christmas off and we start in the US again then we go to Australia then after Australia we come back and do another US run.

P21: What bands have you been listening to lately?
JJ: Satyricon, Immortal, the new Queens of the Stone Age, The Wild Hearts just to name a few.

P21: What's your favorite movie of all time?
JJ: Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

P21: What's your favorite thing about being as big as you are now?
JJ: Its not really like a materialistic thing. It's just the fact that I get to go and play in front of a bunch of people that like appreciate what I do. With Slipknot and The Murderdolls, its just cool to have like the appreciation factor and the love of the fans is the best thing I can think of honestly.

P21: How did you come up with the name of the band?
JJ: I just wrote it down and we were looking for a new name after the Rejects and I just mentioned it to the band and all the guys were just like, "Oh my god, that's the fucking name." Ya know, I'm kinda my own worst critic, I didn't really think of it as being all that great. Now that we have been on tour though I can see how its caught on and been more established more so then I originally thought.

P21: What do you think of Stone Sour?
JJ: Honestly, and I don't mean this in a bad way, I haven't heard the record yet. But, I know most of the songs that are on that album back from when Stone Sour used to play in Des Moines a long time ago, before Slipknot. But, yeah I think they're cool and good luck to Corey and Jim.

P21: Is there anything else that you would like to add?
JJ: Just thanks to the fans and thanks to everyone that's lending an ear to what were doing right here because it is so different. And thanks to people that our takin the time to check it out, I appreciate it.
