MOTOGRATER INTERVIEW
June 16, 2004
Ed Martin for Prophecy21.com: How's the tour been going so far?
Ivan Lead Vocals for Motograter: Excellent, there've been a lot of greatlocal bands opening up for us. It's great to get out there with the masses.
There's a lot of politics involved with the bigger acts, so its good tosee some bands that just wanna get up there and play music.
P21: How long have you guys been together?
IV: The band itself has been around for about 8 years. I've been it theband for about two years.
P21: What exactly is the motograter?
IV: Its built with pick ups like a guitar and a titanium rod that runsparallel so you it with a stick as well two springs. Its percussive as wellas bass.
P21: What's been going on so far with the new album?
IV: We've been working our asses off on it. Half the reason we got back onthe road was because the inspiration in the studio didn't feel like it wasall there. The electricity wasn't up so we got back out try to get backinto it.
P21: Any tentative release dates yet?
IV: We're looking first quarter late March, early April.
P21: What's the significance of the paint to your show?
IV: It's our tribal paint man. When we walk on that stage we are a unit, nomatter what our individual differences may have been during the day oncewe're on that stage we are that unit, so that helps us connect.
P21: What are your plans for after this tour?
IV: After this tour we're hopefully heading out to Europe or possibly go outwith Soulfly. We've also been talking to Mushroomhead about a Halloweendate or two. Then back to the studio.
P21: Do you guys have any new videos coming out soon?
IV: We we're actually talking about doing a No Name video, but in allhonesty we don't want to go main stream right away we have a lot of work todo. We all grew up on like Slayer, Metallica, Pantera, bands that tooktheir time edging their way up to cult. Its too easy to get onto MTV thesedays.
P21: Is it true that you guys had to repaint the walls in Birch Hill'sdressing room because you got handprints all over the room?
IV: Absolutely.
P21: Do you guys have stuff like that happen a lot?
IV: All the time man.
P21: What do you guys usually do to kill time on the road?
IV: We read, we listen to like every CD you can imagine, Bruce eats. We allhave different things.
P21: What bands have you been listening to lately?
IV: A lot of Pink Floyd, Soulfly. I love Faith No More, Fantomas I've beenlistening to that CD lately. Mindless Self Indulgence. Like I saidPantera, I'm not really into Superjoint a whole bunch, but I love Pantera. I still have Vulgar in my CD player, I don't think I've ever taken it out.
P21: Where are some of your favorite places to play?
IV: Birch Hill was pretty bad ass til we painted the back room and weren'tallowed back. They burnt it down though so now it's not a problem. NewJersey, New York, like the entire East Coast is amazing. In the Midwestthere's like a certain style of kids, the East Coast seems to be more openminded more willing to give you that spirit. The West Coast, I don't know, itdiffers everywhere.
P21: What bands that you guys haven't toured with yet would you like to?
IV: Honestly Tool. Sepultura if they ever got back together, that'd beawesome. System of a Down, we're really looking to try and get on a fallkind of thing with them. Countless bands, there are so many good musiciansout there. I wish Snot was still around.
P21: Do you guys work any other jobs when you're at home or is the band allyou do now?
IV: We all have different things we do, mostly musically. Bruce makesinstruments, he's got a couple contracts to do this and that. Aaron is inanother band called Synthetic. We all keep ourselves going.
P21: How'd you decide to cover Roots?
IV: Sepultura is our homage that's where our blood comes from. Every singleone of us is really into the tribal and the rhythmic. If you listen to thefucking drums on that album its just insanity. It speaks above anythingelse.
P21: Thanks is there anything that you want to add?
IV: Thanks for coming out and doing this interview.
