DIMMU BORGIR INTERVIEW
August 26, 2004

Ed Martin for Prophecy21.com: How's the tour been going so far?
Silenoz guitarist for Dimmu Borgir: Pretty good, very good actually. A lot of people you know.

P21: What are your plans for after this tour?
SZ: We're just gonna go home, take it easy, and start writing for thenext album. We're pretty much done touring for this album.

P21: You wrote a song in Norwegian for this album what made you decideto do that?
SZ: That was something that just came about. I wrote some words inNorwegian on the paper and it actually turned out to be a cool text so I showed it to all the guysand they thought it was cool, so we did it.

P21: What would you say is the biggest difference between this albumand the previous?
SZ: Soundwise it is many steps further you know. Production andarrangement wise, I feel the strongs are much stronger I think. Probably because we demoed all thesongs before we went to the studio, so we had an idea for how we wanted it to turn out in thestudio.

P21: Where did you get the samples that you used on the album from?
SZ: From different varied stuff. We made some. Actually most of thestuff we made ourselves.

P21: How big of an accomplishment was it for you guys that this albummade it on to the Billboard Top 200?
SZ: Well thats just a bonus. I mean we don't make music to get bigsales figures or anything like that, that's just a bonus that comes with it. But it was a goodbit of a surprise.

P21: Having been at this for ten years now, what would you say havebeen the biggest changes in the band, and in the Black Metal scene as a whole?
SZ: I think it's more about concentrating on the music now instead ofin the beginning of Black Metal when most of the focus was on the imagery. The focus is more onthe musical aspect now and not on the criminal side or anything like that which is how it shouldbe. Thats the main difference, everything seems to be a lot more structured and focused onthe things that are important in music, and that is to play the music. Not the non-musicalstuff.

P21: Do you guys ever play Nocturnal Fear anymore?
SZ: No we haven't played it live or anything, only on the CD.

P21: What is the main difference between shows here in America and inEurope?
SZ: Well I think there's a lot of people that don't know us here likethey do in Europe. I think touring here has turned out better for us then I thought it would.

P21: Is it weird for you guys to go out on a stage and play during theday?
SZ: Yeah, I mean obviously this isn't the best environment, but weused to do that back in the day too when we played festivals in Europe. We're kind of new comershere so we play early, it's cool, it's alright.

P21: What bands have you been listening to lately?
SZ: Everything really. We play a lot of old heavy metal stuff on thebus you know, especially death and black metal.

P21: Have you guys ever had any trouble on tour getting into a newcountry?
SZ: Not any major problems really. There's always people at theborders that give you bullshit because of the way you look, so stuff like that. But we haven't hadany major major troubles no.

P21: What bands would you like to tour with that you haven't yet?
SZ: I'm into bands like WASP and Maiden so something like that wouldbe cool. There are a lot of bands that would be cool to tour with. We've been lucky so far andtoured with some real cool bands.

P21: What is your favorite band on Ozzfest?
SZ: Judas Priest.

P21: Are there any plans for another DVD in the future?
SZ: Not in the near future, but we might have another video releasedbefore the next album.

P21: Have you guys began working on the next album?
SZ: No, we just have some bits and pieces here and there. We neverwrite music when we're on tour so we'll start writing when we have some time off when we gethome.

P21: What do you usually do to kill time when you're on the road?
SZ: Watch movies. We're a quite excessive band so we drink a lot youknow. You have to find ways to keep yourself occupied. At these festivals you play for halfan hour and its every second or third day so we play some headlining days on our off days.

P21: Thanks, is there anything that you want to add?
SZ: Nope, I think you've got pretty much everything thanks.
